Tips from your Los Angeles Family Photographer

Hey there! As a family photographer, I love capturing those special moments at our beautiful beaches, fields, and gardens. One of the biggest questions I get is, "What should we wear?" Don't worry—I've got you covered with some easy tips to help you choose the perfect outfits.

Coordinate, Don’t Match

Let’s start with a big one: coordination. Instead of everyone wearing the exact same thing, think about a color palette with 2-3 colors that look great together. This way, each family member can wear something a little different, but you’ll still look put together. I always recommend starting with mom's outfit first.

Below are some recommended color palletes:

Think About Your Location

  • Beaches: Light and airy colors are perfect for the beach. Think whites, soft blues, and sandy neutrals. These colors blend beautifully with the natural surroundings and give off that relaxed beach vibe. Flowy dresses, linen shirts, and casual shorts or pants are fantastic options.
  • Fields and Gardens: If your session is in a field, earth tones and soft pastels work wonders. Colors like mustard yellow, olive green, and soft pink look amazing against the natural backdrop. Go for comfy yet stylish clothes like maxi dresses, jeans, and cozy sweaters. Jewel tones like emerald, burgundy, and royal blue look stunning among the greenery and flowers. Floral patterns can also be a lovely touch, just keep them subtle to avoid clashing with the surroundings.

Choose Timeless Pieces

While it’s fun to wear the latest trends, classic and timeless pieces will make sure your photos look great for years to come. Simple, well-fitting clothes without big logos or busy patterns are always a good choice.

Some Inspiration For Mom and Dad:

Comfort is Key

Comfort is super important, especially for the little ones. Choose outfits that everyone feels comfortable in and can move around in easily. When everyone’s comfortable, it’s easier to relax and have fun, which leads to more natural and joyful photos.

Plan Ahead

A few days before the session, lay out everyone’s outfits to make sure everything is clean, ironed, and ready to go. This will help reduce stress on the day of the shoot and let you focus on enjoying the experience.

I hope you've found this helpful! Let's create some beautiful memories for your family!
